The weather has been atypical with hot days followed by rain and cool. However, that has not slowed Kyle and Jack down from taking on summer full-bore. With school out, there is a bit more time for fun expeditions. We have sampled ice cream, did a little swimming, went to the movies (where mom learned there are assigned seats - it had been awhile), and put in a quick trip to Iowa to surprise Grammi. Luckily, we got in and out before the insane heat came in and experienced a fantastic thunder and lightning storm. One Kyle did not wake up for, yet claimed she was not sleeping.

Adios to Grade One
Kyle conquered first grade with chapter books, impressive math skills, many art projects, lots of friends and much excitement. There was field day, popsicles, ice cream. This kid is on her way to second grade.

Rain Won’t Slow Them Down
We took a rare family day to hunt for a dump trailer...that turned out to be harder to find than expected. Luckily we added in some family fun to visit a friend’s new property.

Flapjacks, Fire Stations, and Obstacles
One of our favorite days of the years involves pancakes at the fire station and kids' obstacle course. We started early filling our bellies with mickey mouse pancakes, cooked ham, and plenty of chocolate milk. Then we toured all the fire trucks and checked out the boat engine before heading to the obstacle course. Jack finally was able to compete himself in the preschool group. He started out a bit nervous, then quickly got caught in the excitement. This involved skipping a couple obstacles, crossing the finish line and announcing "I'm awesome!". Kyle crushed it for the third year.

River Walks and Skipping Stones
As summer begins to make its presence, we have enjoyed some evening river walks. The water is still a bit cool, but that does not mean fun cannot be had. We have made pools, skipped rocks, played splashy batting, and took time for reflection. So thankful for this place!
