Poppies and Uncle Sam -- WE REMEMBER

It saddens us all that they only way they "know" him is by a name on the wall. He would have loved them dearly.  Peace comes in sharing stories and explaining the honor and sacrifice he made...along with all those near him.  This day is always a bit tough and a lot of special.  Love you, Grandpa Dale!!

Coastal Living

For a bit of a break, we headed to the Olympic Peninsula and rented a cabin on the edge of the Pacific Ocean.  There was something fascinating about sitting out watching the waves crash and listen to the rumble.  It made you feel quite small in perspective of its greatness.  Plus there were lakes to visit, hikes to be made, and beaches to explore.  We saw crabs, starfish, and sea urchins.  We put our feet in the water and climbed rocks.  Jack tackled large beach logs while proclaiming "Spiderman did not have to wear a coat."  We saw the world's largest spruce and recognized somethings are just pure magical.  It was a lovely weekend full of family and treats...including s'mores.  Sometimes a short weekend is the perfect everything...and this was it.

Decade Day...what era am I again?

When you find out last minute it's decade day at school, a mom has to make do.  Luckily I could pull together an outfit I would have loved to wear to kindergarten.

I Wanna See the Fish

Sometimes the perfect outing around here is Bass Pro Shops.  There is a little bit for everybody...plus this one even has bowling (although this time we skipped that).

When All You Desire is a Fire Truck Cake

Today, Jack turns three.  And today the only thing Jack wants is a fire truck cake...which he deliciously enjoyed.  This little guy's sweet tooth is pretty intense, and cake is essentially the key to all happiness.

Jack is eager, busy, and constantly moving.  He often partakes in an activity with various sound effects in a manner that is somewhat comedic and in other ways quite talented.  At three, Jack is becoming opinionated, stubborn, and displaying some unwillingless to back down.  He will argue and push buttons as far as he can...then respond with a lovely, "I'm so sorry."  Yet Jack is also intensely loveable.  He gives fierce hugs, longs for great kisses, and enjoys snuggling in on weekend mornings.  Jack is logical - a skill displayed in his amazing puzzle completion.  It's possible he strives to take over when folks are taking a bit too long in his opinion.  One of the greatest things about Jack is his humor. This guy needs to pull off a joke and thrives off making people laugh.  He routinely breaks out in his "Belly, Belly, Butt" dance complete with actions that is something to see.  There is now doubt he has a sense of humor that is already busting out of his little body.  It's not surprising that so many people who meet Jack continually say, "I just love him.  He's so great"  They are so right, even if he likes to test his limits at home on occasion.  It's pretty likely this fella is going to be head-strong, which probably will carry him farther than we can imagine.

Favorite things are trucks, trains tractors, and more trucks.  We rarely go anywhere without out.  Jack loves point out "a mix" or a "worker-worker"  Construction activity is now a real sight to see. Everywhere we go, a plethora is packed in his Pack-Pack just in case there is an opportunity for play.  Other loves still include his zebra, sharks (especially when swimming), playgrounds and anything that potentially involves building stuff.  He would spend endless hours in the barn examining tools and only by watching Daddy has figured out how to use them.  Jack loves everything about family time and having his people around, especially his sister.  The two are best buddies with hours of play from building forts, swinging, and acting out long scenarios created by his sister.  Other loves include pancakes and pizza which he will eat endlessly, while walking away from many other foods.  Books are still a bonus, and he is often found in his room after-hours flipping through the pages.

Jack is a tiny little human of endless joy and excitement. There is few things as great as him running with pure love when you show up at daycare.  He wants to be in the middle of everything, surrounded by people, but also independent.  He makes friends everywhere he goes from a person behind the counter to the middler schooler to the folks just sitting in the mall.  Jack is a socializer and talker willing to interject a thought on just about anything, even if he has to reference back to poo-poo.  He is intelligent, quick-minded and tackling new things like a boss.  Counting is a breeze with a few songs thrown into the mix.

It's no surprise Jack requested a fire truck cake for his birthday.  It brings his love of cake and fire trucks to the forefront.  But it's also the simple thing of having his favorite people surrounding him to enjoy one of the things he loves best.  Happy Birthday, Little Man!!

I'm a Big Kid Now

When Kyle started kindergarten, she was fascinated with hot lunch.  It is still one of her favorite things, and likely prefers that over packed lunch....unless it is chicken drumstick day.  Jack had an opportunity to join Kyle for lunch following her school walk-a-thon.  It's pretty clear he loves hot lunch just as much!
